Pastoral Search Committee

To my brothers and sisters in Christ,

I am a licensed minister and past deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pittsfield, MA.  Here I have grown in my relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.  I have served faithfully for eleven years, growing in responsibilities, and gradually being conformed to his image.  As a Biblicist, I heard his call to ministry in 2005 while on a missions trip to Gautier, MS to provide help to those affected by hurricane Katrina. At which time my wife and I were called to minister to his musical evangelists in New England.  Our outreach was a simple one, but a necessary one.  We would help set up their equipment at different churches, provide fellowship and encouragement, and provide financial assistance where possible.  Through our experiences we learned how to walk by faith, and fully trust in the Lord’s provision.  God’s missionaries and evangelists are an integral part of his Church and it is our responsibility as the local church to support their ministry.

In 2006 I enrolled in Liberty University’s Bible College (Wilmington’s Bible Institute, formerly LBI). I studied through their Distance Learning Program via online courses and graduated with a certificate in 2009

Since I have graduated, I have maintained an active role in my church, increasing my ministry as the Lord provided the opportunities.  One such ministry included an outreach to the First Congregational Church of Peru, in Peru, MA; where I began preaching the Gospel Truth once a month and during the holidays. There, I was able to teach from the Bible many of the truths which had been overlooked or forgotten for so many years during their struggle to find a Pastor. Sadly, we parted ways in the summer of 2010, as our ministry goals no longer lined up with each other.

In November 2009, I was tested by the men of my church, my Pastor, and three other area Pastors and found worthy and acceptable for licensure.  Since I have been licensed, I have been blessed to be used of God in a graveside service, a wedding, and the Lord’s Supper as the lone officiant. I have done visitations. I have also expounded on God’s Word by preaching once a month at my church, and filling in for my Pastor both in the pulpit and for Bible study.

I believe that God has called me to be a Pastor; to serve according to his purpose, and to his Word. I have prepared this resume packet to introduce myself to your search committee, with the hope that you will find God’s calling in my life to be an authentic one and one that will serve the unique needs of his Church as either an interim or permanent Pastor.

Your fellow-helper in Christ,

Norman W. Smith Jr.
